ABOUT LAURA
I believe good therapy starts with feeling understood.
I’m Laura Patch, a BACP-registered counsellor and psychotherapist based in Market Harborough.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent almost 30 years working professionally as an actor across television, film and theatre.

MY STORY
From acting to psychotherapy
For most of my working life, I was an actor. I loved the work, but I also understood the uncertainty, rejection and complicated relationship between career and identity.
At one point I wanted a therapist who genuinely understood that world. I struggled to find one.
So, eventually, I became the therapist I had been looking for.
That background now informs my specialist creative-industry work, but it also shapes the way I work with every client: life is rarely as straightforward on the inside as it appears from the outside.
HOW I WORK
I’m interested in the person, not just the problem.
Person-centred
We begin with your experience, your relationships, your history and what matters to you.
Warm & engaged
Therapy should feel like a conversation between two people, not an examination.
Collaborative
I won’t tell you how to live your life. We work together to understand what feels right for you.
MY PRACTICE
One therapeutic approach, different reasons for coming to me.
Personal counselling & psychotherapy
For adults dealing with anxiety, loss, relationships, stress, burnout, identity, change or simply feeling stuck.
Creative industries
Specialist support for actors, performers, cast, crew and productions informed by first-hand industry experience.
QUALIFICATIONS & PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
Professionally trained. Continuously learning.
I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), membership number 01034722, and work within its professional and ethical framework.
I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, awarded by CPCAB and completed through Tresham College. My continuing professional development includes Safeguarding Awareness Training and training in using mini-figures and sand within therapy, alongside further counselling and psychology study.

BEFORE COUNSELLING
Almost three decades in the creative industries
My acting career continues to influence the way I think about performance, identity, uncertainty, resilience and the relationship we can have with success and rejection.
It also gives me a particular understanding of the people and pressures found across film, television, theatre and performance.
A LITTLE MORE HUMAN
Away from work…
Placeholder for Laura: a short personal paragraph if she would like one. This section can disappear entirely if she prefers to keep the site focused on professional information.
If you’re wondering whether I might be the right therapist for you, we can start with a conversation.
There’s no need to arrive with the right words or know exactly what you want from counselling.
